About Emirates

Emirates flies almost everywhere through a single hub in Dubai. For travellers in Australia and New Zealand that makes it a natural one stop option to Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the connection times through Dubai are generally short enough not to ruin the day.

What sets it apart in economy is the bits most airlines have cut: a generous checked baggage allowance on most fares, a proper meal service, and the ice entertainment system, which remains one of the best in the sky. Skywards miles can be earned and burned across the airline and its partners.

What they offer

  • Long haul flights through the Dubai hub
  • Economy, Premium Economy, Business and First
  • Generous checked baggage on most fare types
  • ice inflight entertainment with a very large library
  • Skywards frequent flyer programme
  • Dubai stopover packages and connecting hotel options

How to book with Emirates

  1. Compare fare types carefully, the cheapest economy fares restrict changes and baggage
  2. Choose your connection time in Dubai deliberately, short is efficient but tight
  3. Pick seats early, particularly on the A380 where the good rows go first
  4. Add your Skywards number before you fly so the miles credit automatically

Good to know

Is the A380 still flying?
Emirates operates one of the largest A380 fleets and continues to fly them on many long haul routes. The aircraft type is shown at booking and can change, so check before relying on it.
How long should I leave for a Dubai connection?
Emirates sells connections as short as around an hour and a half. They generally work, but if you are checking bags or travelling with children, a longer gap is less stressful.
Can I stop over in Dubai?
Yes, Emirates sells stopover packages that include a hotel, and a stopover of a day or two often costs little more than a straight connection.
Does economy still include checked baggage?
On most fares yes, and the allowance is more generous than many competitors. The very cheapest fare types are more restricted, so check what you are buying.
